Not only is Cassandra Musgrave Nelson my sister, but she is also an amazingly talented expressionist oil painter. I was very excited that she was one of the artists that agreed to be involved in my project and we immediately began to brainstorm ideas. She had already started compiling details for a series she was thinking about doing and thought with my sewing, painting and digital skills we could really make it come together.
We decided to base our piece on our grandmother Louise Cochran, aka Nano. She was an amazing grandma and what better tribute to her than a beautiful artwork to last a lifetime?
After finalizing the idea that we would incorporate an old family recipe of Nano's, a portrait of her as well as ingredients from the recipe, we were well on our way to what Time Gunn would call "making it work." Stay tuned for updates on what we come up with! We won't be showing our final piece here though, you will have to come to the show to see them all! :)
